Reiki describes both the non-invasive healing technique and the
energy that it employs to enhance and maintain health.
The practice of Reiki dates to 3,000 BC in what we now call Tibet.
Reiki energy brings the body into balance so it can heal itself
on all levels- physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.
When we are healthy and relaxed the flow of energy through out
body is smooth and balanced. When we are ill or stressed, the energy
flow becomes blocked. Reiki helps to restore the balanced flow of
energy. During a classic Reiki treatment, while the client is on
a standard massage table or chair, the practioner's hands are placed
very gently on the client for five minutes in each of the twelve
positions. For special needs, the positions and time may vary. The
client remains fully clothed at all times. There is no pressure
on the body, nor is there any manipulation or massage. Minimal conversation
is employed while soft soothing music is played in the background.
Reiki is effectively used for preparation and recovery from surgical
procedures, reducing side effects of chemotherapy and radiation
therapy.
